It’s Monday and I figured I’d take this day to share a little of ME. I love to cook and a couple months ago I discovered the Sprouted Kitchen Blog and fell in love with the food, the photos, everything. Reading the blog inspired me to try photographing some of my cooking. I have always used fresh ingredients but after lots of reading and some funky little hives that were showing up for no apparent reason on my abdomen I have been moving more toward a natural/organic diet for our family. I started to cut out food I couldn’t pronounce on labels and not only do I feel better, the little hives only show up when I eat food with weird additives. If you want to do some jaw dropping reading on the subject check out Master Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels.
Another tid bit about me…when I was 14 I thought it would be cool to follow the example of one of my girlfriends and I cut out all beef, game meat and pork. I didn’t eat meat for about a year and a half after quitting and was at a friend’s house and they were having tacos and I didn’t want to be rude so I ate a coupe spoonfuls of beef on my taco, it made my stomach ache so for 17 years I would only eat chicken, fish and turkey. About a year ago I decided to give moose meat a try and it was incredible and didn’t upset my stomach so I have slowly been adding those foods back into my diet and the food horizon had expanded tremendously for me and I’ve had no adverse reactions to adding them back. I buy natural or organic meats and eat as much moose meat as possible. We have always caught our own halibut and have enjoyed some salmon over the years, but my goal this summer is to fill our freezer with both and learn to cook them like a pro. With the help of our neighbor we are going to tackle our first garden this summer. I am no green thumb and the thought of it all scares me, but I LOVE veggies and it will be awesome to grow it all ourselves. Wish us luck!
The following photos were taken in my kitchen with a tripod while I was making pita pizzas. The reflection of the food in the granite and the Sprouted Kitchen blog inspired me to shoot the beautiful ingredients.
If you are interested in this recipe or others leave a comment and I’ll post it. I am planning to post things of interest to me that I think are worthy of sharing…fun facts, recipes, books I enjoy, etc…If there is something you’d like to see more of let me know.
Enjoy!
